We were called out to a property in Saughall, Chester to carry out a large pollard on a weeping willow that had outgrown its space in the garden. The customer wanted the tree drastically reduced back to manageable pollard points, and there was a huge amount of material to come off.

The job required careful planning as we were working around greenhouses in the garden, but our experienced team handled the access without any issues. A weeping willow of this size produces an enormous volume of brash and timber, so efficient removal and a thorough tidy-up are just as important as the climbing and cutting work itself.

Pollarding is a great option when you want to keep a tree but it has simply got too big. By cutting back to established pollard points, the tree can regrow in a much more controlled way. Willows respond very well to this type of management and will produce fresh, healthy growth from the pollard points in the following season.

The customer was very happy with the result — the garden has been opened right up and the tree is now at a size that can be easily maintained going forward.
